ABOUT THE BOOK

The cofounder of Generous Coffee and lead of The Bachelor's twentieth season reveals the key to being seen and known, as well as to leading a life that truly matters.

In Alone in Plain Sight, Higgins shares his perspective as a fellow sojourner on the journey to find connection and meaning. Examining the questions he has wrestled with personally, he invites us to

  • realize that the measure of how connected we are with ourselves is how connected we are with others;
  • discover why connection with others is essential and how shared pain can bridge even the widest gaps between two very different people;
  • deconstruct the fairy-tale view of love that culture advertises and address the lie that being single is a disease that needs to be cured; and
  • understand that the God who seeks connection is the answer to the deep yearning we have to connect to something bigger than ourselves.

PRAISE

“To all those searching for true connection: you’re in good company! Alone in Plain Sight by my friend, Ben Higgins, is tackling some of life’s biggest questions and giving them true, hopeful, and applicable answers. Personally thankful for Ben’s reminder that we’ve always been seen, loved, and never alone.“

Sadie Robertson Huff, Author, Speaker, and Founder of Live Original

"In Alone In Plain Sight Ben shows the world what made him a good Bachelor but more importantly what makes him a great man and even better friend. Ben is fearlessly vulnerable, open and honest in this book about his own struggles in order to help us all grow together. Now more than ever we need words like these to help us find connection instead of division, common ground instead of a battleground. Ben understands life is more complicated and needs and deserves more than just a positive quote on social media."

Chris Harrison, Host of ABC’s hit romance/reality franchise “The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette.”

"Ben Higgins has been able to use his platform to help so many through his charity work, mission projects, and now, through Alone in Plain Sight. For people who are feeling lonely, yearning for a sense of belonging, and in need of a safe place to be vulnerable, this book will help inspire you to bravely make connections and build communities. If you feel like you need a friend, Ben Higgins will be just that as you read this book. He understands what you're feeling. You're not alone in feeling alone. As discussed in the book, we may be living in one of the most isolated times in history. Retreating to your safe space may be comfortable and the desire to detach from those with different viewpoints can be tempting in today’s age as divisiveness intensifies. However, Alone In Plain Sight explains how much more fulfilled we will be with our lives if we exit our comfort zones and communicate with open minds and hearts."

Ashley Iaconetti Haibon & Jared Haibon

"Ben's ability to look at the world through a lens of curiosity, vulnerability, and hope is what makes Alone in Plain Sight a must-read for anyone looking to reconnect to themselves, others and the One who knows us best."

Bob Goff, Author of three NYT Bestsellers: Love Does, Everybody Always and Dream Big

"In Alone in Plain Sight, Ben Higgins takes what is already known of his public life and adds the personal deeper things- the questions and stories of God, others, and himself- and it creates a book that is honest, relatable, generous, and encouraging. I finished reading it and felt, somehow, less alone in my life, too."

Annie F. Downs, bestselling author and host of That Sounds Fun podcast

"Ben Higgins has many aspirational qualities, but his genuine intellectual curiosity is the one I envy most. While many people assume they know the world they live in, Ben is on a constant quest for understanding. In my life, I've never met anyone I enjoyed disagreeing with more, as those disagreements always led to empathy and betterment on both sides. In a world where morality seems harder and harder to find, I truly consider Ben a diamond in the rough, an embodiment of non-performative kindness. Alone In Plain Sight is less of a how-to and more of an unvarnished self-exploration, an attempt to reconcile what life is with what life could be... I encourage you to read it, especially if you think you have nothing to learn from him."

Elan Gale, author "You're Not That Great" and television producer.

"As Ben's friend and pastor Alone In Plain Sight reminds me of why I love how he has used his platform for good. It is a joy for me to see growth and depth in Ben. My hope for you is that as you read this book you will be blessed as I was as you get to peer into life more fully and get to know Ben a little bit better."

Denny Wilson, Pastor, Warsaw Community Church

"There are books you enjoy. There are books that make you think. Then there are books that force you to be honest. Ben, in Alone in Plain Sight, has forced us to be honest with ourselves. He forces us to ask what’s missing, what are we searching for, what can we appreciate, what can we imagine that will be better for us. In this brilliant and beautifully written book, Ben dares us to find meaning in both the compelling and complex parts of our stories. He invites us to sit still, be calm, and wonder. He charts his emotional life, his personal struggles, his journey with God, and experience of love. More than anything, Ben invites us to be more human. That’s what it is, that is what makes this special and worth our time: to read this book is to become more human. Embraced. Connected. Love. Seen."

Dante Stewart, writer and host

"I once heard a wise man say, 'There are two things in life that make the world go round, money and relationships. Only one of those will make you rich, and it's not money.' Nothing is more fundamental to the human experience than the relationships we form and Ben understands this as well as anyone I've ever met. I love this book because it captures the essence of who Ben is: Authentic, honest, vulnerable, wise and someone who is marked by his love for God and people. I promise you are going to love this book, from the amazing stories of people that He's crossed paths with, to the incredible nuggets of wisdom that He weaves in and out of each chapter. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!"

Chad Bruegman, Pastor, Conference speaker, Executive Coach

"No matter what season of life you are in, this book (and Ben) will make you feel less alone in your journey. Ben's beautiful heart & faith shine so bright...I feel lucky to be part of this community & continue to learn from Ben's heart for people."

Tanya Radisavljevic, radio, podcast & tv personality

"A beautifully written exploration of spirituality, human relationships and how our childhood affects those, and seeing Ben’s heart of gold shine."

Sarah Boyd, (Ben’s Manager) of Socialyte

“In Alone In Plain Sight Ben Higgins does the unexpected. He fearlessly strips himself from his Bachelor fame, social media following, and fan expectations to simply be what so many of us need right now, a friend. His personal and sincere understanding of what it’s like to feel alone, allows us to share with him In his struggles as he lovingly tells us of the hope that he has come to find. Vulnerable, transparent and honest Ben Higgins takes us into his struggles that echo so surprisingly like the ones all of us experience. But in Alone In Plain Sight he doesn’t just leave us there. We get to grow right alongside him as over time he learns to find his identity in the One that matters most. In Alone In Plain Sight Ben takes us on a deep and personal journey that leads us all to a better understanding that who we are and who we are meant to be is so much bigger than we can ever put into words.”

Tyler Merritt, Creator of The Tyler Merritt Project

"Life is hard. We all fall short, we compare ourselves to others, and we’ve all felt rejection, regret, or loneliness. Alone In Plain Sight offers heartfelt stories, introspective questions, and Biblical references to guide each of us on our own journey to feeling understood, relatable, and heard. After reading this book, I have confidence that life is meant to be done together and I'm never alone as I face adversity!"

Cody Zeller, Former Indiana University basketball player and current player in the NBA

“Honest, vulnerable, humble, full of kindness and love, this book is a direct reflection of who Ben Higgins is as a human. A constant example of how to love others- Alone in Plain Sight exemplifies Gods love through Ben’s words.”
